About The Position

Techno is seeking an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Lead to support construction activities at a large, active municipal wastewater facility on Staten Island. This role will provide on-site safety leadership for a complex infrastructure program involving significant mechanical upgrades, heavy construction activity, and work within an operating treatment environment. The EHS Lead will serve as the primary safety authority in the field, working closely with construction management, contractors, and client representatives to ensure that all work is performed in compliance with regulatory requirements, safety plans, and best practices. This position is ideal for a hands-on safety professional who is confident leading in dynamic, high-risk environments and understands the expectations of NYC public-sector projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of environmental health and safety experience on NYCDEP construction projects
  • Demonstrated experience supporting construction activities within wastewater, water, or utility facilities
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, NYCDEP safety requirements, and environmental compliance standards
  • Experience overseeing safety for mechanical installations, heavy equipment, confined spaces, and energized systems
  • OSHA 30 certification required
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to enforce standards diplomatically and effectively
  • Ability to work full-time in the field within an active, operational facility
  • Strong documentation skills with experience preparing reports, logs, and compliance records

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred
  • additional safety credentials (CSP, CHST, CIH) strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all environmental health and safety activities on site, serving as the primary point of contact for safety-related matters
  • Implement, monitor, and enforce site-specific safety plans, environmental controls, and permit requirements
  • Conduct routine site safety inspections, audits, and hazard assessments across active work areas
  • Monitor contractor compliance with safety procedures, PPE requirements, and approved work practices
  • Review and approve job hazard analyses, activity hazard analyses, and method statements
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns, and lead corrective action efforts
  • Deliver safety orientations, toolbox talks, and targeted safety training as needed
  • Coordinate closely with construction management, engineering teams, and client representatives on safety performance and concerns
  • Maintain detailed safety records, logs, reports, and regulatory documentation
  • Support emergency response planning and drills within an operating facility environment
  • Promote a strong safety culture that prioritizes accountability, communication, and continuous improvement
