About The Position

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager, Hydropower Relevate Power is a growing renewable energy company specializing in the development, operation, and maintenance of small-scale hydropower facilities. With a growing portfolio of 36 remote hydro sites, we are committed to delivering reliable, sustainable energy while maintaining the highest standards of environmental stewardship and worker safety. Position Summary The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all Environmental, Health, and Safety programs across a geographically dispersed fleet of small hydropower facilities. This role is critical to ensuring regulatory compliance, minimizing risk, promoting a strong safety culture, and supporting operational excellence in remote and challenging environments. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with experience in hydropower, renewable energy, utilities, or heavy industrial operations, and is comfortable working independently across multiple remote locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Engineering, or a related field, military, or equivalent experience, and 7+ years of EHS experience in utilities, renewable energy, hydropower, construction, or industrial operations
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and applicable state regulations
  • Experience managing EHS programs across multiple remote or field-based locations
  • Proven ability to work independently and influence without direct authority
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to remote hydro sites; up to 50% travel may be required
  • Eligible candidates must be authorized to work in the US for any employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Eligible candidates must maintain a valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in hydropower, dam safety, or water resource management
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent
  • Experience working with contractors and third-party operators
  • Familiarity with emergency response planning in remote or rugged environments
  • Strong leadership and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Environmental Compliance Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management systems in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Ensure compliance with hydropower-related construction and operating permits (e.g., erosion control, spill prevention, NPDES)
  • Oversee environmental monitoring, reporting, and audits
  • Serve as primary liaison with environmental regulators and agencies
  • Lead spill prevention, response planning, and environmental incident investigations
  • Health & Safety Management Establish and enforce company-wide health and safety policies, procedures, and standards
  • Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and safety inspections across all sites
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
  • Develop and manage emergency response plans
  • Oversee contractor safety programs and ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and safety standards.
  • Training & Culture Develop and deliver EHS training programs for employees and contractors (water safety, safety awareness, etc.)
  • Establish process for qualified trainer programs (e.g., confined space, lockout/tagout, fall protection, etc.)
  • Promote a proactive safety culture emphasizing personal accountability and continuous improvement
  • Support field teams with practical, site-specific safety guidance
  • Auditing & Reporting Conduct regular EHS audits and site assessments
  • Track and analyze EHS performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators
  • Prepare internal and external EHS reports for leadership and regulatory agencies
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and compliance tracking systems
  • Leadership & Continuous Improvement Advise leadership on EHS risks, regulatory changes, and best practices
  • Support new site acquisitions, commissioning, and integration from an EHS perspective
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety performance, reduce environmental risk, and enhance operational resilience
  • Manage EHS-related budgets, consultants, and external service providers as needed
