About The Position

The Environmental Health Program Manager 3 (NY HELPS) will serve as the Director of the Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection, overseeing the development, direction, and implementation of statewide programs related to environmental radiation. This role involves managing investigations and assessments of environmental radiation emissions, enforcing health regulations, and designing initiatives to mitigate risks associated with radiation exposure.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as biology, chemistry, environmental health, or public health.
• Six years of professional work experience in investigating or controlling health impacts of environmental exposures, with two years in a supervisory role.
• A master's degree may substitute for one year of experience; a Ph.D. may substitute for two years.

Nice To Haves

• Ten years or more of experience in radiation protection/health physics.
• Five years or more managing staff involved in radiation protection activities.
• Extensive knowledge of existing laws and regulations at both the State and federal level.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Director of the Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection.
• Develop, direct, and implement bureau programs on a statewide basis.
• Investigate and assess environmental radiation emissions and related issues.
• Develop and enforce environmental health regulations for licensing and inspecting radioactive materials facilities.
• Oversee radiation equipment facility registration and inspection.
• Respond to incidents involving radioactive materials and radiation equipment.
• Conduct environmental surveillance of contaminated sites.
• Manage the collection and analysis of technical information relevant to the bureau's programs.
• Design initiatives and intervention strategies to reduce risks from environmental radiation emissions.
