About The Position

Purpose and Scope: Apply technical and regulatory expertise to accomplish environmental tasks. Responsible to plan, coordinate and perform a wide range of environmental, health, and safety compliance actions involving hazardous waste, lead and asbestos abatement, hazardous materials, pollution prevention, and training. Essential Responsibilities: 1) Oversees contractual compliance of KNPR 8500.1, KSC Environmental Requirements. 2) Implements the Pollution Prevention Program and prepares the annual sustainability report. 3) Oversees the Hazardous Materials Management Program and develops and maintains a current chemical inventory. Prepares annual reports required by EPCRA. 4) Develops and conducts the Hazardous Materials Storage Site Inspection Program, Waste Site Inspection Program, and provides technical assistance to identified users. 5) Develops and conducts training for identified hazardous material and petroleum users. 6) Oversees all air/water permit requirements and develops associated reports and logs. 7) Serves as technical advisor to the EHS&Q Manager on all matters pertaining to environmental compliance and potential environmental impacts. 8) Obtains and maintains emergency preparedness certifications related to spill response. 9) Develops, implements and maintains environmental, occupational safety, and health procedures for assigned program areas. 10) Audits organizational compliance and develop corrective action reports. 11) Reviews operational procedures for EHS compliance. 12 Keeps abreast of pending regulatory developments through reference sources. Reviews literature in the fields of occupational safety and health. 13 Supports the investigation of incidents and root cause analysis, and provides guidance toward appropriate corrective action. 14) Maintain a working knowledge of statutory requirements related to EHS regulations. 15) Prepares miscellaneous projects and reports at the direction of the EHS&Q Manager. 16) Performs compliance inspections. 17) Performs other position related duties as assigned. 18) Supports Company policy and directives and ensures safety and environmental protection remains our highest priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in physical or biological sciences, plus eight years demonstrated proficiency in environmental engineering or environmental science disciplines.
  • Six years experience in environmental compliance, including two years in a supervisory or advisory role.
  • Position may require travel.
  • U. S. Citizenship required for unescorted access to restricted assigned work area(s).
  • Must be able to successfully pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • If required, must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • A valid driver’s license to independently drive onto and around Kennedy Space Center.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience at Kennedy Space Center or Cape Canaveral Space Force Station performing related responsibilities.
  • Previous work experience as a compliance auditor/inspector.
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification
