About The Position

The Wells EHS Director of Field Services is responsible for providing safety and health direction and oversight, ensuring the organizations adherence to local, state, and federal occupational health and safety, environmental, and DOT regulations with specific focus on construction safety for the erection of precast concrete. The role involves the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS policies tailored to commercial construction and precast erection environments. The EHS Director of Field Services keeps abreast of relevant regulatory changes (including OSHA standards for cranes, rigging, fall protection, and concrete construction), implements behavior-based safety practices, conducts safety audits on active construction sites, attends pre-construction activities, investigates incidents, and provides training to employees at all levels. The EHS Director of Field Services plays a vital role at Wells by championing a culture of safety, safeguarding both the workforce and the environment. The position reports to the VP of EHS. Requirements

Bachelors degree in management or occupational safety preferred.
Five (5) to Ten (10) years experience in construction safety, specifically with heavy commercial construction, precast concrete erection, crane operations, and rigging.
Possession of a valid drivers license, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for typing, filing, and using office equipment.
Visual acuity and ability to read small print.
Hearing acuity and ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to lift and move office supplies and equipment.
Mobility and ability to move around the office as needed.
Must be capable of working in heat and wintry conditions.
Must be capable of climbing, bending, kneeling, squatting, sitting, walking (flat and uneven surfaces).
Must be comfortable working at heights.

Nice To Haves

CSP (Certified Safety Professional) preferred.
OSHA 10 and 30-hour cards are preferred.
OSHA 500 trainer course in construction preferred

Responsibilities

Identifies, develops, implements, documents, and recommends safety processes or change processes to reduce or eliminate hazards in the workplace, specifically focusing on risks associated with precast concrete erection, crane operations, rigging, welding, and working at heights.
Builds and influences safety culture through collaborative approaches that hold employees at all levels accountable.
Manages administration of Wells Safety and Health programs and communicates them across all field operations.
Visits job site areas on a regular basis to establish an environmental, health, and safety presence and provides support.
Participates in incident investigations to eliminate repeat/future occurrences, with an emphasis on root cause analysis.
Investigates near-miss reports and assists the management team with appropriate corrective action.
Performs job safety analyses, compliance audits, behavior based safety observations, and risk assessments that support the reduction and elimination of incidents, injuries, hazards.
Develop programs that encourage active employee participation in safety initiatives, such as safety committees, suggestion programs, and peer-led safety audits.
Regularly communicate with employees to gather feedback, address concerns, and involve them in the development of safety policies and procedures.
Implements targeted safety training programs that not only meet regulatory requirements but also engage employees in meaningful ways, enhancing their understanding in high risk construction environments and commitment to safety.
Utilizes interactive and innovative training methods, such as hands-on workshops, to reinforce key safety concepts.
Engage employees at all levels in identifying potential hazards and assessing risks, ensuring that their insights and experiences shape safety solutions.
Work with cross-functional teams (project managers, superintendents, foreman) to develop and implement risk mitigation strategies that are practical, effective, and embraced by the workforce.
Develop and support safety leadership at all levels, encouraging managers and supervisors to lead by example and actively promote safety within their teams.
Recognize and reward safety champions who demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering a safe work environment.
Provide excellent verbal and written communications, implement ongoing communication strategies to keep safety top-of-mind, using a variety of channels such as newsletters, safety talks, and digital platforms.
Ensure that safety messaging is clear, consistent, and resonates with employees, reinforcing the importance of safety in every aspect of their work.
Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure that safety considerations are integrated into the broader business strategy, reinforcing the connection between safety and organizational success.
Acts as coach and mentor to the management team and workforce.
Oversees the recordkeeping program inclusive of OSHA 300 Logs, training records, and other safety documentation.
Compiles, prepares, and creates weekly and monthly safety reports.
Schedules, administers, and tracks EH&S training requirements.
Uses a continuous improvement mindset to identify process waste reduction that promotes the elimination of incident risk.
Coordinates monthly safety committee(s) meetings and ensures regular membership attendance and program support.
Facilitates local safety committee(s) to ensure positive change is happening and progress is monitored.
Supports manager accountability goals and objectives that complement the overall safety goals that protect employees from harm and our company from liability issues.
Supports workers compensation cases, maintains accurate records, which includes guidance and assistance returning employees back to work after a work-related injury.
Works with regulatory officials as needed to comply with voluntary programs, fire codes, safety regulations, and environmental regulations.
Evaluates PPE and related safety equipment and makes changes as needed.
Ensures annual equipment inspections are completed as required.
Monitors, performs and/or schedules all testing as required at respective location(s).
Administers/supports the Wells SDS Online program (all Wells locations) and updates on the electronic log as needed.
Acts in professional manner that demonstrates honesty, integrity, trust, and empathy.
Works with Wells environmental partner to ensure Wells remains environmentally compliant.
Develops and trains on Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plan.
Ensures monthly inspections at all sites are completed and ensures reporting of spills to the respective state as required.
Orders and maintain inventory of absorbents for spill prevention and clean up.
