About The Position

Tesla is seeking a dynamic environmental professional to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS). This role will support environmental compliance programs for Tesla Non-Manufacturing. Reporting to EHS leadership, the Environmental & Hazardous Materials Compliance Specialist will be responsible for performing complex technical work across hazardous materials programs. This includes tracking and maintaining chemical inventory, preparing and maintaining hazardous material reports and documents, and ensuring compliance with hazardous material storage across Tesla facilities. The specialist will work closely with emergency management, site management, material planning, and local EHS representatives to standardize processes and maintain accuracy. They will serve as the internal subject matter expert and advise and influence internal business partners to achieve environmental and hazardous material performance goals. The specialist will oversee and review Hazardous Material Business Plans (HMBP) or Hazardous Materials Management Plans (HMMP) as well as record-keeping requirements related to Hazardous Waste Operations. This includes managing hazardous waste manifests, waste profiles, training records, compliance inspections, and regulatory reports. They will also manage training required for hazardous waste technicians and site teams, document training rosters, and support the completion of waste classifications for new waste streams. The role involves partnering with Fire Engineers, EHS, Design Managers, and non-manufacturing stakeholders to ensure compliance with hazardous material storage maximum allowable quantities (MAQs) and to develop and improve databases for chemicals and hazardous materials. Additionally, the specialist will develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for environmental compliance procedures, ensure compliance with proper labeling and placarding, and support audits and inquiries from regulatory agencies. They will analyze data, report trends, and recommend risk-reduction plans and corrective actions to standardize and implement waste management and minimization procedures. This position is crucial for building capacity, providing solutions, and driving continuous improvement throughout the Global Tesla Organization.
