About The Position

The Environmental Test Equipment Technician IV is responsible for operating, maintaining, and supporting advanced environmental test equipment used for simulating various conditions and stresses. This role requires significant experience in test equipment operation and maintenance and involves following work instructions, configuring and calibrating test equipment and software, and documenting equipment performance as defined within testing protocols. In addition to operating test equipment and recording operational data, the Environmental Test Equipment Technician IV may perform predefined data processing, equipment status reviews, and provide detailed feedback on equipment performance to engineers and team members. Additionally, the role requires the ability to identify, report, and troubleshoot anomalous behavior in environmental test equipment to ensure optimal testing conditions and reliable results.

Requirements

  • Typically 8+ years of related experience.
  • Experienced understanding of general best floor practices including safety and handling of Flight hardware.
  • Expert proficiency using basic test equipment, hand tools, electrical harnessing and mechanical fixturing.
  • Able to setup and support validation of special test equipment.
  • Perform advanced test functions using special test equipment.
  • Ability to follow test procedure instructions and advise Test Engineering on improvements or deficiencies.
  • Understanding of 5S, FOD, and ESD awareness.
  • Understanding of correct storage and handling requirements for all hardware.
  • Ability to lead and successfully perform advanced test setup and test execution tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to record and verify test results accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and report anomalies.
  • Ability to train or mentor other test technicians.
  • SME and/or Lead Technician experience.
  • Ability to provide input to Test Engineers for test configurations and test procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience in an aerospace AS9100 accredited company in environmental testing of space flight hardware.
  • Attention to detail & high level of responsibility and integrity that is inherent to success in an aerospace environment.
  • Strong desire to work with your hands and basic hand tools.
  • Strong desire to take ownership of environmental test center daily coordination resources and activities.
  • Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Rounded electronics experience and ability to use math such as algebra, statistics, geometry, calculus, differential equations, astrophysics etc.
  • Experience with conducting dynamic environmental testing as a shaker operator is a plus.
  • M+P controller configuration for random and sine vibration is desired.
  • Experience with force testing machines such as Instron and MTS equipment including test article attachment methodologies and strategies.
  • Current TS/SCI Security Clearance is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Primary Operations SME to troubleshoot and repair Thermal/T-vac Chambers & Dynamic Shaker issues assisting in emergency repairs and preventative maintenance and upkeep as required.
  • Work with external vendors as needed to support test asset uptime and maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain common test equipment supplies to facilitate test operations.
  • Maintain and perform continuous improvements to test center operations researching and organizing the implementation of new technologies into thermal monitoring / control racks for improved functionality in the direction of automated testing utilizing new software and hardware combinations.
  • Primary chamber/shaker operator for the test center and assist in environmental thermal/vacuum/dynamics/load frame test setups of space flight hardware with data logging, chamber/shaker control, and sensor installation.
  • Monitor analog & electronic data sources recording legible written data at increments specific to program requirements.
  • Manipulate raw test data into plots, charts, or equivalent visual trending methodologies.
  • Troubleshoot & correct thermal data logger/sensor malfunctions.
  • Configure Thermal and Vacuum ports to accommodate unique electrical and mechanical test needs.
  • Perform helium leak detection methodologies to troubleshoot chamber issues.
  • Communicate test status to facilitate flawless handoff and overall test plan coordination to future shifts.
  • Report to the Operations Manager and complete all job specific tasks given by him/her.
  • Assist Assembly, Integration, and Test operations on the production floor as directed by management.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
