About The Position

EKI Environment & Water, Inc. (EKI) is an employee-owned, full service, engineering and environmental sciences consulting firm serving private- and public-sector clients throughout the United States. The Environmental Engineer position reports to the Small Group Leader (SGL) and is responsible for supporting site characterization and remediation projects for our industrial, commercial, and municipal clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering or similar degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an engineer/technician involved with site investigation planning, site remediation design and construction, and operation and maintenance of environmental remediation systems preferred
  • Entry-level is also acceptable
  • Engineer-In-Training certification or ability to obtain state license preferred
  • Must be proficient in CAD and pass skills test
  • OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred but not required
  • Must have effective communication skills both oral and written
  • Must have ability to multi-task, stay organized, work independently, and collaborate with various project teams
  • Must have a strong desire to grow personally as well as professionally
  • Must have a great attitude and eager to learn
  • Must have a current valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with high-volume workload and frequent short deadlines
  • Must have the ability to obtain medical clearance to work on hazardous waste site(s)
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Must be able to work 10-hour days
  • Must be able to work remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to communicate with others to exchange information
  • Must be able to assess the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
  • Must be able to travel occasionally, possibly overnight for customer meetings and site visits up to 50% of the time

Responsibilities

  • Performing field investigations and ensuring that workplans are followed correctly and data handled appropriately; field work will include site inspections, soil characterization and sampling, stormwater, and groundwater sampling.
  • Performing and overseeing operation and maintenance tasks on various types of remediation systems for groundwater treatment, vapor intrusion mitigation, soil vapor extraction (SVE), air sparging, and non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) recovery
  • Overseeing and documenting subcontractor activities on client sites and ensuring that work scopes are followed
  • Perform EHS compliance audits and implement follow-up corrective actions to assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and permits
  • Collating, tabulating, and interpreting data and developing conceptual models to support identification of sources and routes of exposure to human health and the environment
  • Working with senior staff to design remediation systems; document results and findings of data collection, technical evaluations, and design activities; and prepare plans and specifications for the investigation and remediation of hazardous waste sites and brownfields
  • Managing project schedules
  • Other duties as required
