Applied Materials is seeking an Environmental Engineer with 5-7 years of experience to support our Santa Clara operations. This position will collaborate closely with business units engaged in semiconductor R&D laboratory operations and the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team to ensure full regulatory compliance and to advance continuous improvement initiatives within environmental programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in environmental compliance and program management.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (Cal-ARP, BAAD, NPDES, etc.).
  • Experience with chemical management systems and environmental data tracking.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support key environmental programs for R&D operations across Santa Clara and Sunnyvale campuses, including: Management of Change (MOC) processes
  • Incident investigation and implementation of corrective actions
  • Environmental compliance review for tool design and installations
  • Oversight of programs related to air emissions, water quality, hazardous materials management, hazardous waste, and risk management for regulated substances.
  • Perform a wide range of environmental compliance duties including but not limited to, environmental permitting, compliance auditing and reporting, management of change, record keeping, and emergency responses.
  • Support the integration and effective utilization of the new environmental management system for compliance tracking and performance reporting.
  • Provide field environmental support, including source testing, inventory audit, emergency responses, and regulatory inspections.
  • Oversee environmental data management processes, including chemical inventory tracking, usage documentation, and regulatory reporting.
  • Act as a liaison with local, regional or federal regulatory authorities.
  • Respond to environmental emergencies and participate in the emergency response team.
  • Conduct audits for Santa Clara environmental program, maintain records, and drive corrective actions to close in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical guidance to facilities and business units engaged in semiconductor R&D laboratory operations.
  • Develop and deliver Environmental training for employees and contractors.
