About The Position

The Environmental Engineer at International Paper is responsible for implementing, coordinating, maintaining, monitoring, and improving environmental programs within the Riverdale Mill. This role involves ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, interfacing with regulatory agencies, and supporting the mill's environmental reduction goals. The position requires strong leadership in safety practices and collaboration with various departments to promote a culture of engagement and respect.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the pulp and paper industry.
  • Knowledge and experience with practical application of environmental regulations.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel), and other databases.

Nice To Haves

  • Environmental area experience or knowledge is preferred.
  • Desired competencies include action-oriented, timely decision making, problem solving, and customer focus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure alignment of the mill with corporate initiatives and priorities.
  • Interface with state and federal regulatory agencies and community members.
  • Participate in environmental compliance audits and assist in closing identified action items.
  • Manage and ensure compliance with all mill solid waste operations.
  • Act as owner's representative for contractors providing services within EHS&S department.
  • Support and execute the IP 2030 environmental reduction goals.
  • Attend and advise in operational departmental meetings.
  • Assist the radiation safety officer with administrative duties.
  • Prepare, review, update, and submit environmental inspections and reports.
  • Provide regulatory guidance to mill operations, maintenance, and management personnel.
