About The Position

The district engineer is responsible for the regulatory oversight of community public water supplies as defined by the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act (Act 399, PA 1976, as amended). The district engineer makes decisions concerning engineering concept and design, operation, and maintenance of community public water supplies, as those decisions relate to public health and the administration of the Act. The district engineer serves as the information source with the community water supplies. The district engineer reviews applications for permits before the Senior Licensed Engineer issues the permit. The senior level district engineer is responsible for the regulatory oversight of community public water supplies as defined by the Michigan Safe Drinking Water Act (Act 399 PA 1976, as amended) for a specified geographic area of the state. The district engineer position is a recognized resource position, requiring independent decisions concerning engineering concept and design, operation, and maintenance of community public water supplies as those decisions relate to public health and the administration of the Act and to be a Licensed Professional Engineer, responsible for review, approval, and issuance of construction permits for all water supply facilities in the district. The district engineer is the primary contact with the community water supplies to fulfill these requirements.
