About The Position

The Environmental Compliance Director will lead and manage programs related to environmental health and safety compliance, focusing on risk mitigation and adherence to regulations. This role involves developing policies, overseeing compliance initiatives, and ensuring that the organization meets all federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Health, and Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health or related field.
  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional) Certification required.
  • Valid CA Driver's License and reliable personal vehicle required.
  • 8-10 years' experience in an Environmental Health and Safety management position.
  • Experience leading a team of EHS professionals.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work in a team environment and handle multiple tasks with a flexible attitude.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong Cal-Osha Program experience required.

  • REHS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist) Certification preferred.
  • CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist) preferred.
  • CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Environmental Compliance department.
  • Partner with the Architecture and Engineering department to ensure project developments meet environmental health and safety (EHS) regulations.
  • Manage all EHS compliance programs in occupational safety, air quality, water quality, waste management, hazardous materials, and land use.
  • Oversee abatement project work including identification of needs, project bidding, management, and oversight.
  • Monitor EHS regulatory developments and develop plans for compliance with new regulations.
  • Monitor Workers Compensation Injury data to identify trends and implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in the organization's sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with storm water regulations for parks and projects.
  • Coordinate attainment of safety metric goals throughout the organization.
  • Evaluate safety plan and compliance progress and oversee required report filings.
  • Identify current and potential environmental risks and implement control measures.
  • Determine occupational safety and health training requirements and deliver training for employees.
  • Audit safety plan progress and compliance across the company.
  • Respond to complaints, conduct investigations, and recommend solutions to minimize safety and health problems.
  • Perform environmental analyses and develop business cases for projects.
  • Direct planning and establish department schedules, following up on performance against estimates.
  • Collaborate with marketing, communications, and government relations teams to promote environmental initiatives.
  • Investigate safety and medical-related incidents and establish preventative measures.
  • Ensure programs are in place to identify safety hazards and respond to complaints.
  • Recommend new policies or procedures as necessary.
  • Oversee preparation and control of departmental annual budget.
  • Represent the company in dealings with governmental officials enforcing environmental and safety regulations.
  • Select and hire employees for open positions and provide performance management.
