Plans, supervises, provides expertise, reviews progress, and evaluates results on corporate environmental protection and compliance programs and procedures at Xcel Energy facilities. Possesses comprehensive knowledge of theories and principals and applies them in creative and effective ways to a broad range of assignments. Works under consultative direction by Environmental Services with substantial latitude for unreviewed actions and decisions. Conducts important investigations requiring the application of new approaches in the field. Routinely serves on special work teams and uses expert technical knowledge to act as lead person or technical advisor on medium to large projects.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and consults on environmental protection and compliance programs at facilities.
  • Communicates with Environmental Services' staff concerning complex compliance issues.
  • Coordinates and reviews data collected to demonstrate compliance and ensures the proper timely notification of responsible company personnel in case problems are detected.
  • Prepares accurate and timely reports for Environmental Services for submission to regulatory agencies.
  • Maintains records as required by company policy and environmental regulations.
  • Prepares special reports for compliance projects.
  • Coordinates activities of external environmental contracts at the facility.
  • Manages site remediation and responds to spill cleanups.
  • Coordinates support for facility regulatory inspections and/or audits.
  • Monitors outcomes of incidents, regulatory inspections and internal audits.
  • Conducts and/or assesses root cause analysis to ensure corrective actions adequately address problems.
  • Develops and implements training lesson plans that meet Xcel Academy Standards.
  • Provides compliance training to Xcel personnel or facility contractors.
  • Prepares and coordinates budgets for environmental projects.
  • Prepares requests for proposals, contract agreements, and project estimates.
  • Supports and/or selects and manages consultants and contractors.
  • Assists others in developing, refining and implementing the strategic goals and objectives of Xcel Energy.
  • Contributes to process teams concerning budget and regulatory compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned by facility management to support environmental compliance activities.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in environmental science, engineering, applied science, or related fields.
  • Six years of progressively more responsible environmental related work experience including environmental regulations, remedial procedures, audit procedures, and power generation processes.
  • Demonstrated skills in technical writing, verbal communication, and negotiations.
  • An Associate college degree in areas of environmental or applied science and three years of progressive responsibilities in related work experience may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • The following additional advanced education in the field can be substituted for related work experience: MS/MA/MBA = 2 years; PhD/J.D. = 3 years.
