About The Position

Environmental Scientist I is a mid-level, field-capable role supporting environmental compliance, site assessment, and remediation projects across North Dakota. This position is designed for professionals who have developed foundational consulting experience and are ready to take on increased responsibility in field execution, technical documentation, and regulatory support. This role emphasizes hands-on field involvement, technical report preparation, and coordination of environmental activities under the direction of senior staff and project managers. The Environmental Scientist II contributes to project delivery but does not serve as the final authority on regulatory interpretation or project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related field
  • 2–4 years of environmental consulting or related experience
  • Field experience with environmental sampling, site assessments, or remediation activities
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations related to air, water, and spill prevention
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in field and office settings

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting SPCC, FRP, SWPPP, NPDES, air permitting, or Tier II reporting
  • Exposure to OGI monitoring or PHMSA compliance documentation
  • Wetland delineation or ecological field experience
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER (or ability to obtain)
  • Experience with drilling oversight and environmental field logging

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and support field activities including site assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, drilling oversight, and remediation system monitoring
  • Perform field documentation including logs, notes, photo documentation, and data collection
  • Support wetland delineations, ecological assessments, and environmental inspections under senior staff guidance
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to site-specific health and safety requirements
  • Prepare draft technical reports including site assessment reports, monitoring reports, and regulatory documentation
  • Compile and interpret field data for inclusion in project deliverables
  • Assist in development of work plans, sampling plans, and remediation summaries
  • Maintain accurate and audit-ready project documentation
  • Assist with environmental compliance activities, including: SPCC, FRP, and SWPPP plan support NPDES permit tracking and documentation Air permitting and Title V support tasks SARA Title III / Tier II reporting assistance OGI and leak detection program support PHMSA-related documentation coordination
  • Support regulatory submittals and maintain compliance tracking systems
  • Coordinate field schedules, subcontractors, and task execution under PM direction
  • Track project progress, deliverables, and documentation status
  • Support budget tracking and time management for assigned tasks
  • Interface with clients and regulatory agencies in a supporting role
