The Entry Team Lead will be responsible for leading and coordinating a team of entry writers to ensure efficient customs clearance processes and compliance with customs regulations. This position requires a strong understanding of customs procedures, excellent leadership skills, and attention to detail.

  • Team Leadership:
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of entry writers and support staff.
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to entry department members to ensure their success and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Properly manage scheduling for the department and assist in performance evaluations.
  • Customs Entry Review: Oversee, review, and audit customs entries prepared by the department to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with customs regulations and all other agencies, including proper duty calculation and valuation.
  • Documentation Management: Review and approve import documentation to ensure compliance with CBP and other partnered government agencies, ensuring they are up to date and easily accessible.
  • Client Communication: Collaborate directly with internal personnel and in some cases importers, addressing inquiries, and resolving issues.
  • Classification Expertise: Utilize your in-depth knowledge of the Harmonized System (HS) codes to assist in accurately classifying goods and ensure proper duty calculation and valuation.
  • Customs Compliance: Providing proper tariff classifications/duty rates for existing and potential new customers.
  • Strategic Planning: Collaborate with management to develop and implement strategic plans for the entry department, setting clear goals and objectives for the department to achieve long-term success.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Help identify opportunities for process enhancements within the entry department.
  • Work with entry manager to implement best practices by contributing to the ongoing enhancement of the entry department through training and performance development.
  • Problem Resolution: Investigate and resolve complex customs-related issues or compliance discrepancies.
  • Regulatory Updates: Stay informed about changes in customs regulations and other partnered government agencies and communicate relevant updates to the team.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; a bachelor's degree in a related field such as international trade, business administration, logistics, or a related discipline is a plus. Advanced degrees or certifications can be advantageous.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in customs brokerage, including experience as an entry writer and leadership role.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of customs regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Cargo Wise experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong mathematical fundamentals with the ability to prorate calculating totals, percentages, and basic measurements.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and guide a team of entry writers.
  • Organizational Skills: Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities to oversee entry preparation and documentation management.
  • Independence and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability in a dynamic customs environment.
  • Decision-Making: Informed decision-making abilities to resolve high-level issues effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement: A commitment to identifying opportunities for process enhancements within the entry department with the implementation of best practices and ongoing improvements.
  • Customs Broker License: While not always required, a customs broker license can be a significant advantage.
  • Relevant Certifications (Optional): Possession of relevant certifications, such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) or other advanced certifications in international trade and customs brokerage.
