A Day in the Life of an Entry-Level Traffic Engineer (EIT) at Hanson Here's a snapshot of what you would do in this role: Assist in traffic engineering and analysis tasks under the guidance of senior engineers Support the development of plans, specifications, and estimates for traffic signal, ITS, and safety improvement projects Contribute to intersection design, pedestrian and accessibility enhancements, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/Traffic Control Plans (TCP), and signing/pavement marking plans Help perform technical traffic studies, including traffic forecasting, operational analysis, and crash evaluations Participate in internal meetings and assist with the preparation of materials for client presentations Support project coordination, including scheduling, documentation, and quality control Contribute ideas to innovative solutions such as alternative intersection designs Conduct site visits and assist with construction support activities Collaborate with team members to explore new service areas within the traffic discipline Other duties as assigned What We're Looking For We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role: Skills: Familiarity with traffic analysis tools such as Highway Capacity Software, Synchro, and/or Vissim Basic understanding of traffic signal design and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) Exposure to the Highway Safety Manual and Highway Capacity Manual Interest in travel demand modeling; experience with Visum, Cube, or TransCAD is a plus Familiarity with roadway design software such as OpenRoads Designer, PowerInRoads, or Civil 3D Understanding of MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, and PROWAG guidelines Strong written and verbal communication skills Willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative team environment Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field 0-2 years of experience in transportation or traffic engineering (internship or co-op experience preferred) Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification within 6 months of hire required Must have completed the following courses: Transportations Engineering, Economic Analysis of Engineering Projects, Fundamentals of Surveying, Fundamentals of Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Analysis, Construction Materials and Testing, Engineering Fluid Mechanics, Logistics for Construction Industry, Fundamental Building Systems, and Engineering and Construction Contracts The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000, depending on experience.
