About The Position

POWER Engineers, a member of WSP, is currently seeking an energetic, self-starting team member with a strong civil engineering education and an interest in performing engineering design activities for electrical substations. This position is in the Power Delivery Northeast Civil/Structural Substation Department, with offices in the following locations: Freeport and Augusta, Maine; Foxborough, Massachusetts; Syracuse, New York, Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Columbus, Ohio. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of one of the offices).

Requirements

• BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college
• Ability to perform basic civil engineering tasks
• Ability to independently create calculation packages
• Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam, or the ability to complete the FE exam within one year
• A strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Nice To Haves

• Three (3) or more years of civil design experience
• Experience in electric utility substation design (15kV through 500kV) is a plus
• Experience with AutoCAD, Microstation, RISA, MatchCAD, LPile, and Civil 3D are beneficial
• Geotechnical background is a plus
• Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain licensure in multiple states
• Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules

Responsibilities

• All aspects of substation civil design including permitting support, site design, foundation design, structure design, and control building design
• Development of civil construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals and project schedules
• Support of substation physical design with bus analysis calculations and coordinating with multiple disciplines on results
• Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements
• Understand and incorporate typical structural code requirements
• Coordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design
• Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements
• Occasional travel will be required
