About The Position

The City of Tigard is seeking entry-level police officers to join the Tigard Police Department. This role involves performing law enforcement duties, including patrol, investigation, and crime prevention, while ensuring the safety and security of the community. Officers will enforce laws, respond to various calls, and participate in court proceedings as necessary.

Requirements

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
• One (1) year of experience working with the public.
• Possession of a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Police Officer Certification from DPSST or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of date of hire.
• Must be a US citizen.
• Must be 21 years or older at the time of hire.
• Must pass DPSST certified entry level exam.
• Must pass ORPAT.
• Must be able to read and write the English language.

Nice To Haves

• Some college-level coursework in law enforcement or related fields.
• Bi-lingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Patrols roads, highways, business, and residential areas of the City.
• Enforces applicable traffic and criminal laws.
• Makes arrests, issues traffic citations and warnings.
• Prepares case records and reports.
• Participates in the prosecution of cases in court.
• Responds to a wide variety of radio calls including theft, juvenile complaints, and family disputes.
• Investigates accidents, deaths, and criminal complaints.
• Serves criminal warrants, applicable court orders, and subpoenas.
• Assists disabled motorists and provides information and direction to the public.
• Observes and reports road conditions, hazards, potential crime, and traffic problems.
