About The Position

As a Public Safety Police Officer at Parkland College, you will play a crucial role in creating a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Officers are responsible for enforcing campus policies and regulations, laws of the State of Illinois, patrolling campus, responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, completing written reports, and collaborating with other campus departments to promote safety and community engagement. These responsibilities are performed in an ethical manner consistent with the college mission, vision, and values. This position is an On-Campus, Full-Time, 12-Month, appointment covered by the Public Safety Officer's Association with an annual salary of $52,436.80. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with safe driving record.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • No felony convictions; must pass thorough background check with fingerprinting.
  • Must complete on-the-job field training officer program.
  • Pass required written exam provided by the National Testing Network, Inc. (NTN), oral interview, psychological evaluation, physical fitness test and medical exam. The psychological evaluation, physical fitness test and medical exam will take place after a conditional job offer has been accepted.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining order on-campus pursuant to College policies, state, and federal law.
  • Providing facility and patron security.
  • Performing parking and traffic enforcement and routine patrol.
  • Conducting investigations.
  • Providing emergency care.
  • Performing forcible arrests as necessary.
  • Documenting incidents.
  • Maintaining a good rapport with college faculty, staff, and patrons.
  • Maintaining appropriate records.
  • Providing assistance upon request.
  • Testifying in a court of law.
  • Wearing and maintaining appropriate uniform.
  • Maintaining current certifications.
  • Other duties as assigned.
