The Entry Level Diesel Locomotive Mechanic is responsible for the repair and maintenance of locomotives in accordance with company policies. This position requires a team-oriented individual who can work collaboratively with others to ensure productivity and success. On-the-job training will be provided to help new employees develop the necessary skills for the role. Key responsibilities include implementing and adhering to the company safety plan, fostering a respectful work environment, and maintaining clear communication among all parties involved. The mechanic will be expected to identify and communicate any obstacles to success, ensuring that all team members are informed and engaged. Additionally, the role involves compliance with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) guidelines, particularly regarding Personal Blue Signal Protection of Workers, and ensuring customer service aligns with company goals. The mechanic will perform air tests, inspect locomotives for structural defects, and carry out repairs according to FRA and manufacturing guidelines. Knowledge of interchange rules and the ability to use various testing equipment and gauges is essential. The position also requires the ability to complete necessary reports, including those mandated by the FRA, and to become a qualified locomotive inspector. Emergency repairs and re-railing of railroad rolling stock are also part of the job responsibilities. The mechanic will be expected to develop the skills of subordinate employees to ensure a pipeline of qualified successors within the organization.
