About The Position

Savannah River National Laboratory is seeking a Linux Systems Administrator, Intermediate. The successful candidate will be a collaborative and energetic team member who thrives on the opportunity to develop scientific modeling infrastructure to support the growth of SRNL. You will work on a team supporting institutional and programmatic customers at locations across the laboratory, performing a wide variety of system administration activities for servers and workstations, including but not limited to the below responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience preferred
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required
  • 0-3+ years’ Linux experience, ideally with large-scale file system administration and support

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of Linux experience, ideally with large-scale file system administration and support
  • Advanced vendor certification (RHCSA, RHCE, VMware, Storage)
  • Familiarity with resource scheduling managers (Slurm, Moab, LSF, etc.)
  • Experience with configuration management and automation tools (Ansible preferred)
  • Experience with OS customization and security hardening using DISA STIG, CIS, etc.
  • Proven track record with scripting in Python, bash, Perl, etc.
  • Experience with containers (Docker, etc.)
  • Extensive understanding of operating systems, computer networks, and scientific modeling applications
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer relations, and problem management skills
  • Experience with project and process planning
  • Ability to clearly document processes and procedures with a focus toward mentoring and knowledge sharing

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the design, build, and maintenance of our Linux and High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems and infrastructure
  • Configure, deploy, and manage Linux/UNIX systems including server and desktop management in a heterogeneous environment
  • Configure, deploy, and manage virtual desktops and servers
  • Provide advanced knowledge of hardware and operating systems including system architectures, network infrastructures, and client/server principles
  • Scripting and automating tasks
  • Deploy and manage Linux systems to include imaging and central management
  • Work with authentication services such as LDAP
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain configuration management tools, such as Ansible
  • Manage projects with some oversight from inception through implementation, including project management, documentation, and training of users, system administrators, or others who may maintain or use the end products
  • Provide technical expertise and architectural direction to solving complex software and hardware issues in a heterogeneous computing environment
  • Configure and manage storage and backup solutions
  • Research, document, and communicate current and future technologies
  • Interact with customers and peers in a professional and responsive manner
  • Work effectively in a team environment to resolve issues, prioritize tasks, assist, and share with fellow team members, and participate in continuous process improvement efforts
