Position Overview: The FOG Analysis Technician will prepare, process, and analyze samples in accordance with Sterling Labs' protocols, ensuring data accuracy through proper equipment calibration and quality control.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience in laboratory settings, especially with water or wastewater analysis is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and use laboratory information systems (LIMS), databases, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and draw conclusions.
  • High level of organization with attention to rules and patterns for analysis and equipment setup.
  • Prolonged periods of standing while preparing, digesting, and analyzing samples.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle glassware, pipettes, balances, and extraction systems.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move sample containers, solvents, and lab equipment weighing up to 30 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, or stooping to access laboratory instruments, ovens, or storage shelves.
  • Must be able to visually inspect samples, instruments, and calibration data with precision; specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work safely around organic solvents (n-Hexane, silica gel) and acids, wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and lab coats.
  • Ability to remain attentive to detail and follow analytical procedures accurately for extended periods.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments.

  • Experience in laboratory settings, especially with water or wastewater analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, digest, and analyze samples in alignment with lab SOPs.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Follow Sterling Labs' accepted methods and internal SOPs for sample processing and reporting.
  • Perform daily calibration checks on analytical equipment. Prepare and manage calibration standards, reagents, and control samples.
  • Analyze quality control samples, including blanks, spikes, and duplicates.
  • Document results in spreadsheets and Element 7 laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Adhere to company safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Monitor and address potential hazards, including spills and equipment malfunctions.
  • Accurately input data and prepare reports for internal and regulatory use.
  • Communicate findings with the WC Team Lead and other relevant departments.
  • Track and manage necessary supplies for successful test runs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
