The Entry-level IT Technologist position at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) involves providing end-user support for a diverse range of computing devices and systems. The role focuses on assisting ORNL staff with IT-related inquiries, managing computer accounts, and supporting the procurement of computing standards. The IT Technologist will work collaboratively with team members to ensure effective computing solutions are delivered, while promoting a respectful and inclusive workplace environment.

  • Provide user support and customer service for IT-related inquiries.
  • Support the acquisition, configuration, preparation, and delivery of computing standards to staff.
  • Assist with purchasing computing equipment and related accessories.
  • Support iOS and mobile devices, including ordering and assignment of devices.
  • Contribute to Knowledge Base articles by authoring and editing content.
  • Perform administrative tasks in support of IT operations.
  • Align behaviors and interactions with ORNL's core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.
  • An AS degree and up to two years of work experience in IT support.
  • Ability to handle evolving priorities and multitask effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly demeanor.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows-based applications.
  • Clear communication skills for interacting with technical staff and end-users.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and mentor less-experienced personnel.
  • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
  • AS degree and three or more years of directly related IT support experience.
  • Knowledge of ORNL practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with ORNL's computing environment and IT systems.
  • Experience with ServiceNow's ITIL management system.
  • Knowledge of ORNL-supported software such as Adobe and Entrust.
