About The Position

The Bloomfield, NJ office of Dewberry is seeking an Entry Level Geotechnical Engineer for its Geotechnical Engineering Department for office and field assignments in the New Jersey/New York/Pennsylvania area. The candidate we are seeking should have 0-2 years diverse civil and geotechnical engineering experience. The successful candidate will be part of a team designing foundation systems for simple and complex transportation related structures, bridges, buildings, dams, and coastal/flood resiliency for traditional Design-Bid-Build and Alternative Delivery (Design-Build) projects. The candidate will perform geotechnical field reconnaissance, prepare and administer boring contracts, perform geotechnical calculations, and perform construction support services. Requirements

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • Possess an EIT certificate, or the commitment to obtain within one year.
  • Working towards a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or Civil Engineering with a Geotechnical emphasis; or the commitment to obtain within five years.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, Bluebeam
  • Possess excellent communication skills as you will be dealing with multiple company offices in the northeast regional area.

Responsibilities

  • Field inspection of subsurface exploration programs, including boring/test pits, pavement cores, geophysical testing, field classify soil and rock according to Burmister and USCS soil classification systems.
  • Prepare boring logs, subsurface profiles, and geotechnical laboratory testing programs.
  • Design and analysis of shallow and deep foundation systems, support of excavation systems, perform bearing, settlement, and stability analyses for foundation and slopes.
  • Observe construction activities including foundation testing, pile driving, and general contractor supervision.
  • Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required.
