About The Position

AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Environmental Scientist to be based in Duluth, Minnesota . This position is expected to begin in June 2026. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conduct environmental field work, including collecting soil, surface water, groundwater, and remediation system data; soil logging; and fluid level gauging. Conduct environmental compliance inspections, including ensuring compliance with stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPP) and spill prevention, control and countermeasure (SPCC) plans. Oversee contractors conducting field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations. Participate in a health and safety team performing inspections, observations, and training. Prepare field documents, collect and process field data, and interpret results. Support office tasks, including data entry, data analysis, report preparation, and maintenance of a records archive system. Collect and record data, comparing results to relevant studies and state and federal regulations to ensure compliance. Travel to project locations, including driving and overnight stays.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.
  • Candidate will submit to medical surveillance screening upon hire.
  • Due to the nature of work, US citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with soil characterization, waste profiling, groundwater/soil sampling, and well installation.
  • Ability to collect and evaluate environmental data in the field and interpret data in an office setting.
  • Ability to prepare investigation reports and help coordinate preparation of drawings.
  • Possess technical report writing skills.
  • Provide independent leadership of self and teams in the field.
  • Demonstrate experience in contractor oversight.
  • Proficient with basic computer programs and the MS Office suite.
