About The Position

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking an Environmental Engineer/Geologist/Scientist in our Glastonbury, CT office. The position is for candidates with 0 to 5 years of experience working in environmental consulting. The successful candidate must have a solid educational background and be self-motivated with a professional attitude. They will join our team of engineers/scientists/geologists that work on a variety of projects that involve site investigation programs, environmental regulatory compliance, development/design of remedial alternatives, and implementation/oversight of remedial actions. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of project managers and/or principals. Between field work projects, you will work in a professional office setting, preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, data analysis and reporting. GZA emphasizes a One Company environment, and as a member of our team, you may be asked to assist on projects and tasks outside of your primary responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related degree required (Master’s Degree is a plus)
  • 1 to 3 years of environmental consulting experience in site investigation, remediation, environmental compliance, or hazardous building materials is preferred
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Ability to follow direction, and work independently or in a team setting
  • Strong communication skills, problem solving and organizational skills
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification, including 8-hour annual refresher certificates, is a plus
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally.
  • A valid driver’s license in good standing and a reliable vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Perform outdoor, all-season field tasks such as oversight of drilling and test pit explorations, soil/groundwater/soil vapor sampling, hazardous building materials surveys, remedial construction oversight, etc.
  • Work on all phases of projects (due diligence, site investigation, data evaluation, regulatory permitting, remedial design, remedial construction oversight and documentation, and post remedial monitoring)
  • Monitoring and documenting various aspects of remedial construction projects
  • Conducting technical analyses/calculations
  • Interpreting various site-specific data to make conclusions and/or recommendations
  • Regulatory permitting and reporting
  • Analysis and interpretation of subsurface data
  • Writing drafts of Phase I ESAs, Phase II/III characterization reports, remedial action plans, and technical specifications
  • Preparing remedial cost estimates
