About The Position

GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Engineer/Scientist in our Springfield, MA office . The successful candidate must have a solid educational background and be self-motivated with a professional attitude. They will join our team of engineers/scientists that work on a variety of projects including site investigation, due diligence, environmental compliance, evaluation of remedial alternatives, and design and implementation of remedial systems. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of project managers and/or principals. Between field work projects, you will work in a professional office setting, preparing detailed and accurate field documentation, data analysis and reporting. GZA emphasizes a One Company environment, and as a member of our team, you may be asked to assist on projects and tasks outside of your primary responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/Geological Engineering, Geology or Science required
  • 1+ year of related environmental experience in the fields of site investigation, remediation, environmental compliance, due diligence, is preferred
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities
  • Ability to follow direction, and work independently or in a team setting
  • Strong communication skills, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification, including 8-hour annual refresher certificates, is a plus
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
  • Ability to lift, carry and move equipment and supplies
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally
  • A valid driver’s license in good standing and a reliable vehicle

Responsibilities

  • Perform outdoor, all-season field tasks such as soil / groundwater /air / surface water / soil gas sampling, site reconnaissance, surveying, construction oversight, drilling and test pit excavation oversight, soil sampling and monitoring well installation oversight, etc.
  • Work on all phases of projects (due diligence, site investigation, field work, data evaluation, regulatory permitting, engineering analysis, construction and/or implementation management and documentation, and any close-out monitoring)
  • Monitoring and documenting various aspects of construction projects
  • Conducting technical analyses/calculations
  • Interpreting various site-specific data to make conclusions and/or recommendations
  • Regulatory permitting and reporting
  • Performing analysis of subsurface data
  • Writing drafts of field and environmental reports
  • Preparing cost/quantity estimates
