About the position

GFT is seeking an Entry-Level Engineer/Designer - Highway to join our Transportation Team in Austin, TX! This position can also be located at any of the GFT Texas offices. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our 'Office Location' office. Working on the Transportation team at GFT offers the opportunity to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity. Whether working on highways and bridges or traffic engineering, our team excels in resilient, sustainable design and construction, delivering innovative solutions that address the complexities of modern, multimodal roadway systems and ensure safe, efficient, and reliable travel for all.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes information and data to perform routine design tasks.
  • Receives instructions from Project Manager or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected.
  • Research design options and document findings.
  • Responsible as a member of the design team for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Researches code requirements.
  • Prepares environmental impact and other administrative reports required for project permits.
  • Keeps Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project schedule or scope or additional services.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Assist or participate in preparation of business proposals.
  • May be asked to participate in non-design engineering activities such as construction inspection and materials testing, surveying, CADD production, and field data collection.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited program.
  • Ability to obtain Fundamentals of Engineering registration within 1 year.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

Nice-to-haves

  • EIT.
  • Previous internship experience in roadway, rail, drainage, and/or construction inspection.
  • Geopak and/or Microstation working knowledge.
  • No relocation or stipend assistance.
