About The Position

POWER Engineers, Member of WSP is seeking an Entry-level Electrical SCADA/Studies Engineer for our office in Boise, ID. The successful applicant will be responsible for performing electrical studies and/or developing and troubleshooting supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for utility and industrial/commercial clients. Applicable power systems primarily include conventional and renewable generation facilities, substations, transmission systems, and distribution systems.

Requirements

  • Must be a recent BSEE graduate, or enrolled in a university pursuing a degree in electrical engineering (BSEE).
  • Must have strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be willing to travel on occasion.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference is given to applicants within one (1) year of graduation.
  • Power system courses covering topics such as three-phase power, load flow, protective relaying, and power system transients.
  • Internships and experience in the technical areas and software listed in the Job Description section.
  • Engineer In Training (EIT) certification, with the expectation to work toward professional engineering registration (PE).

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical studies and develop SCADA systems for utility and industrial/commercial clients.
  • Conduct protective relaying including short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time-current coordination, protection scheme and criteria development, relay settings calculation, integration with SCADA systems, NERC compliance, and arc flash analysis.
  • Perform power system planning studies including steady-state real and reactive power flow, generation interconnect feasibility, and dynamic stability performance.
  • Conduct infrastructure design studies including substation grounding, insulation coordination, transient simulation, and power quality analysis.
  • Design and configure network and communication paths for SCADA system equipment.
  • Develop logic and control schemes for remote and local operation of power system equipment.
  • Prepare points lists for data transfer between control centers and controlled apparatus, and develop Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens.
