About The Position

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an entry level Design Engineer to join our growing Bridges & Structures team in Buffalo, NY! Our bridge experts partner with our clients to understand project objectives, while formulating solutions that result in successful outcomes that are safe, efficient, economical and sensitive to the environment. This highly skilled team of professionals offers a full range of bridge services from scoping, planning and preliminary engineering through final design, for small to large scale bridges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering required.
  • Engineer-in-training (EIT) certification is preferred.
  • Increasing proficiency with Civil 3D and MicroStation CAD software is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and contribute as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire knowledge and develop basic skills in bridge engineering.
  • Apply learned techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare general engineering designs and/or technical data for completion and accuracy.
  • Perform structural calculations on a particular part of a project under direction of supervisor.
  • Assist with other project related tasks such as structural inspections, report writing, permit applications, and CAD work.
  • Exercise judgment on details of work and work under direct supervision on all aspects of tasks assigned.
  • Work within MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D to successfully complete projects.
  • Apply awareness of structural codes (IBC, ASCE-7, ACI, AISC, AASHTO) to designs.
  • Perform basic concrete and steel design for bridges, retaining walls, culverts, and miscellaneous highway related structures.
  • Utilize structural software at a basic level (MathCAD, Enercalc, Midas, STAAD, etc.)
