The Entry Level CNC Machinist / Drill Operator position at a family-owned machine shop in Akron, OH, focuses on machining heavy production materials to meet print specifications. The role involves operating CNC machines, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring quality control in the manufacturing process, particularly for the aerospace and defense industries.

  • Machine heavy production and/or fixturing materials to print requirements.
  • Move heavy materials (up to 20,000 lbs) and tooling using proper equipment (forklifts, overhead cranes, lifting chains/slings, etc).
  • Select and properly use a wide variety of tooling including drills, reamers, taps, boring heads, spindle supports, etc.
  • Select or modify cutting parameters to suit various applications including different materials, interrupted cuts, tooling or workpiece situations prone to vibration/chatter.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair on equipment as necessary.
  • Edit or occasionally program on CNC controls as necessary.
  • Complete daily maintenance and repair; record actions on logs.
  • Communicate with operators from other shifts.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills required, typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A working knowledge of CNC machine code (G & M codes).
  • Experience using one or more of the following manual or CNC tools: lathe, milling machine.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
