About The Position

PlaceWorks is seeking a full-time, entry-level technical specialist that has a specific interest in or experience with air quality/energy/greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and/or noise CEQA compliance, to join the Environmental Team in our Bay Area, Southern California (Orange County/Los Angeles), or Sacramento office. We are looking for an individual with 0 – 3 years of technical experience (such as through a college degree, accreditation program, or internship) conducting air quality, energy, GHG, and/or noise technical analyses and studies, who are passionate about helping shape and improve communities through their work; experience specifically related to CEQA is a plus. Working in a professional and collaborative work environment under the guidance of skilled project managers and other senior staff, this position supports project teams and other technical specialists by conducting air quality, energy, GHG and/or noise technical analyses (modeling and interpreting data) and other technical studies to prepare environmental impact assessment documentation per the CEQA and NEPA for a wide array of project types. Our environmental practice encompasses a variety of private and public sector project work including environmental review of general and specific plans, school facilities, parks, mixed-use development, housing projects, commercial centers, industrial and warehousing centers, and infrastructure projects. You are familiar with or are genuinely interested in learning the CEQA process, CEQA and NEPA compliance, and technical writing and analysis of environmental documents and impact analysis for initial studies and EIRs. You have strong mathematical skills, and advanced skills with high-level functions in Microsoft Excel. You’re experienced and proficient with Microsoft Word and Outlook. You have strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills and aren’t afraid to ask questions. Multi-tasking is second nature and you can produce final project documents, products, and reports by stated deadlines. You’re a self-starter who is also a team player, able to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid work environment—balancing remote work with in-office collaboration as required based on office location. This position requires a minimum of two in-office days per week. For Air Quality, Energy, and GHG, you have interest in conducting air quality and GHG mass emission such as CalEEMod and EMFAC, and are also interested in assisting with health risk assessments. For the Noise, you have experience designing and performing site visits and field work at project locations to measure and characterize existing noise and vibration conditions in project areas. For Noise, you have familiarity with or experience conducting noise/acoustic modeling for transportation- and construction-related noise and vibration impacts using sound propagation modeling such as: RCNM, TNM, SoundPLAN, CadnaA. You can develop appropriate mitigation measures to reduce impacts of a project when necessary. You’re interested in assisting with proposal efforts. You possess a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in engineering; environmental science; mathematics; environmental policy; urban, regional, environmental, or natural resource planning; or related field.
