About The Position

BRIC is a leading arts and media institution anchored in Downtown Brooklyn whose work spans contemporary visual and performing arts, media, and civic action. For over forty years, BRIC has shaped Brooklyn’s cultural and media landscape by presenting and incubating artists, creators, students, and media makers. As a creative catalyst for their community, BRIC ignites learning in people of all ages and centralizes diverse voices that take risks and drive culture forward. BRIC is building Brooklyn’s creative future. BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! is NYC’s longest-running, free performance festival, and a beloved summer tradition featuring approximately 25 varied large-scale performances and attracting upwards of 200,000 people each summer to the Prospect Park Bandshell. BRIC seeks an Entrance Staff Team Member, who will be part of a dynamic team welcoming audience members, answering questions, and soliciting donations at the entrances to the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! site. Each Entrance Staff Team Member will be responsible for engaging with audience members as they enter the venue. This individual should have experience interacting with the public to positively engage the audience and represent the message of BRIC and the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! experience.

Requirements

  • Mission & Values Alignment : A passion for BRIC’s support of the arts in Brooklyn and a deep commitment to building community, igniting learning and making change through the arts and creativity.
  • Commitment to Equity & Inclusion : Desire to perform the role of Entrance Staff person with an equitable and inclusive approach.
  • Must obtain F-04 Certificate of Fitness (Fire Guard) issued by the FDNY: BRIC will assist applicants with preparation and compensation for the examination.
  • Must be at least 18 years old - college students on summer break are encouraged to apply!
  • Availability throughout the festival season and can commit to most or all the show dates.
  • Experience in positively interacting with the public, and ability to navigate large crowds of people.
  • Ability to easily talk to strangers - candidates must feel comfortable asking the general public for donations of money as they enter the venue.
  • Strong voice projection.
  • Comfortable handling cash and making change.
  • Comfortable with technology (ticket scanners and mobile donations).
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Professional appearance required.
  • Must be able to stand outside on feet for entire 6-8 hour shift and to lift 25 pounds.
  • Must have positive, proactive, and professional behavior at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in the performing arts - acting or customer service experience a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Welcome audience members at venue entrances.
  • Manage lines to venue entrances.
  • Solicit and collect donations.
  • Scan tickets to benefit concerts.
  • Answer questions, spread positive & accurate messaging about BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival & BRIC.
  • Engage with the audience and distribute brochures and other materials, as needed.
  • Report to the Front of House Manager and work well with the rest of the Entrance Staff team - as well as volunteers, Green Team, Operations, etc.
  • Assist with audience counts
  • Assist with staffing the information tent to provide assistance to guests.
  • Assist with set up and break down of audience chairs.
