About The Position

The Enterprise Systems Analyst helps maintain, secure, and improve DEQ’s cloud and enterprise infrastructure. This role supports daily cloud operations, assists with server administration, and provides backup coverage for the Cloud Administrator & Infrastructure Support Lead. The position ensures systems are monitored, patched, documented, and aligned with Commonwealth of Virginia security standards.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud platforms, or systems administration.
  • Working knowledge of cloud fundamentals (OCI, Azure, AWS preferred).
  • Foundational experience with Windows Server and/or Linux (RHEL/Oracle Linux).
  • Understanding of enterprise security principles and configuration standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across cloud, OS, and basic networking layers.
  • Experience with monitoring tools and enterprise ticketing systems.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and continuously improve.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to cloud certifications or coursework (examples: OCI Foundations/Associate, Azure Fundamentals, AWS Cloud Practitioner, architect, etc).
  • Ability and willingness to obtain entry cloud certifications within 6 months.
  • Experience supporting identity and access management concepts (SSO, MFA, federation) and tools such as Okta (or similar).
  • Experience supporting patching, hardening, and vulnerability remediation activities in enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with scripting/automation basics (PowerShell, Bash) and/or infrastructure-as-code concepts (exposure).
  • Experience working in a government or regulated environment with formal security standards (COV or similar).
  • Familiarity with DEQ systems, architecture and processes beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Cloud Administration (OCI / Azure / AWS) Perform daily cloud platform support: account setup, access requests, basic configuration. Monitor cloud performance, availability, and security alerts; escalate issues as needed. Assist with cloud cost reviews and identifying unused resources. Support cloud migrations, onboarding, documentation, and operational readiness. Provide backup coverage for core cloud administration tasks. Coordinate with VITA and vendors on estimates, requests, and implementation work.
  • Server & OS Administration (Windows / Linux) Assist with Windows and Linux server tasks: accounts, maintenance, patching, hardening, and troubleshooting. Support patching schedules, vulnerability remediation, and documentation. Help maintain secure configuration baselines (CIS, COV standards). Participate in backup/restore checks and disaster recovery activities. Build proficiency in Windows and Linux administration through training and hands‑on work.
  • Operational Support & Documentation Respond to infrastructure tickets and service requests; troubleshoot and escalate as needed. Assist with incident response and outage documentation. Maintain accurate runbooks, procedures, and configuration documentation. Identify recurring issues and recommend process improvements. Track work in enterprise ticketing systems for visibility and accountability.
  • Security & Compliance Support secure access practices (least privilege, role‑based access). Assist with vulnerability remediation and patch validation. Ensure all changes follow security and architecture standards. Participate in change review and security review processes as needed.
  • Partnership & Professional Development Coordinate with VITA, vendors, and internal teams on maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle tasks. Support communication of maintenance windows and operational impacts. Stay current on relevant technologies; pursue certifications aligned with the role. Provide backup coverage and contribute to a collaborative, service‑oriented team culture.
