About The Position

This is a senior-level network engineer position in the Enterprise Technology Edge Networking team that will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient network infrastructure in support of the university’s network services. This includes configuring and operating network security devices, such as firewalls, VPNs, and related systems to implement macro and micro segmentation based on profiles driven by Network Access Control (NAC) and Identity Based Network Services (IBNS) systems. This position will engage with both Enterprise Technology staff and academic and business stakeholders to ensure intended security policies are correctly translated into technical network controls.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen, resident, or officially recognized asylee - Applicant selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
  • Bachelor's Degree and intermediate network certifications (CCNA/CCNP - Routing/Switching or Data Center), or, equivalent work experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of other networking concepts (TCP/IP, Routing and LAN switching)
  • 5 years of experience with medium to large enterprise network operations.
  • Experience with Cisco Systems switches, routers and firewalls (IOS, IOS-XE, NX-OS, ASA, NGFW).
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ years of experience with medium to large enterprise network operations.
  • Experience with Network Access Control (NAC) or Identity based network services (IBNS).
  • Experience with network automation such as Ansible, AWX, and Zero-touch Provisioning (ZTP).
  • Experience working in data center or mission critical environments deploying, operating and troubleshooting networks, servers and application layer firewalls.
  • Experience architecting enterprise networks.
  • Security design and operations experience including HIPPA/FERPA/PCI compliance and necessary application/protocol analysis.
  • MPLS VRF/L2VPN implementations.
  • Familiarity with Software Defined Networking.
  • Higher education work experience

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and operate network infrastructure to implement macro and micro segmentation and layer 3 through layer 7 network controls to implement network and security profiles for users and devices on the UT network.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with ET and unit representatives to anticipate network and telecom security and isolation needs to create solutions for UT-Austin.
  • Lead collaboration with extended network team to anticipate technological changes and automate infrastructure deployment, fault detection, standardized operations, and life cycle management.
  • Provide escalation support for complex network designs, troubleshooting, and after-hours on-call support.
  • Evaluate new network technologies, conduct proof of concept implementations, create run book definitions, and lead pilot deployments.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
