This is a senior-level network engineer position in the Enterprise Technology Core Networking team that will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient network infrastructure in support of the university’s network services. This includes configuring and operating network security devices, such as firewalls, VPNs, and related systems to implement macro and micro segmentation based on profiles driven by Network Access Control (NAC) and Identity Based Network Services (IBNS) systems. This position will engage with both Enterprise Technology staff and academic and business stakeholders to ensure intended security policies are correctly translated into technical network controls.

  • Design, deploy, and operate network infrastructure to implement macro and micro segmentation and layer 3 through layer 7 network controls to implement network and security profiles for users and devices on the UT network.
  • Operate UT’s Network Access Control (NAC) and Identity Based Network Services (IBNS) systems.
  • Participate in system architecture and planning for NAC and IBNS services.
  • Provide escalation support (tier 3+) for complex problems related to NAC and IBNS systems.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of current/recent network engineering experience with Cisco IOS-XE and IOS-XR routers and switches
  • 5+ years of current/recent network engineering experience Fortinet firewall systems
  • 2+ years of current/recent experience working with Network Access Control (NAC) and Identity Based Network Services (IBNS) products or technologies
  • Working knowledge of navigating and configuring mainstream consumer devices (macOS, Windows, iOS, Android)
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • DevOps experience building and implementing network automation processes
  • Experience with Python, Perl, and UNIX shell scripts
  • Experience working in large university environments (30000+ students) supporting academic (instructional and research) and administrative functions
