Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice President, Information Security, the Enterprise Cybersecurity Architect is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of secure architectures across UT Southwestern's clinical, research, academic, and administrative environments. This role ensures that cybersecurity is embedded into the design of all critical systems‿including AI/ML platforms, enterprise applications, cloud infrastructure, and on-prem environments. The architect provides strategic and technical leadership in designing scalable, secure, and compliant solutions that align with institutional business goals, regulatory requirements (HIPAA, GDPR, CJIS, etc.), and enterprise risk tolerance. The role will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership and collaborate across IT, security, and business teams to proactively reduce institutional cyber risk. Candidates must live in the DFW commute area, no relocation can be provided. This hybrid role requires coming into the office at least 1 day a week.

  • Lead the design of enterprise-wide security architecture frameworks, patterns, and reference models across hybrid environments (cloud, on-premises, and edge).
  • Align cybersecurity strategies with institutional goals and enterprise risk management principles.
  • Partner with Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, and Application teams to ensure secure design of new and existing systems.
  • Define and maintain secure architecture standards for Azure, AWS, and GCP platforms, including integration with AI/ML, IoT, and other emerging technologies.
  • Provide direction to conduct security reviews and threat modeling (e.g., STRIDE, LINDDUN) for new technologies and platforms, ensuring privacy and security by design.
  • Lead risk assessments for high-impact systems, including AI-enabled applications, EHR extensions, research platforms, and data integrations.
  • Translate complex technical risks into actionable mitigation strategies aligned with business risk appetite.
  • Support CJIS, HIPAA, FERPA, Texas DIR, and institutional governance compliance via architectural controls.
  • Evaluate and lead integration of security and technology solutions (e.g., CNAPP, CSPM, SSPM, CASB, identity governance platforms etc.).
  • Serve as the escalation point for architectural guidance during security incidents and forensic investigations.
  • Architect solutions for real-time detection, data loss prevention, and behavioral analytics.
  • Mentor architects, analysts, and engineers; facilitate knowledge transfer and skills development.
  • Influence IT and business leaders on strategic technology and security direction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • 5 years of enterprise architecture or cybersecurity design experience, including cloud and on-prem systems.
  • 2 years in a senior or enterprise-level architecture role leading large-scale, complex environments.
  • (CISSP) CERT INFO SYSTEMS SECURTY PROF within 1 Year or
  • Cloud security certification (e.g., CCSP, AWS Security Specialty, Azure Security Engineer). within 1 Year
  • Master's Degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related discipline.
  • Experience leading security architecture for academic medical centers or large research institutions.
