The Enterprise Architect Principal at Northwestern Mutual is a senior technical leadership role within the Cloud Platform team, responsible for driving the technology strategy for the organization's cloud solutions. This position focuses on collaboration, scalability, compliance, and enhancing user experience, while mentoring and guiding other technical experts. The role involves leading complex programs, aligning business strategies with technology architecture, and fostering a culture of quality and ownership within the team.

  • Set the strategy on teams' service offerings in collaboration with technical products and engineering.
  • Teach, mentor, grow, and advise other domain experts and individual contributors across several teams.
  • Lead complex programs that span departments and divisions, acting as a single point of accountability for execution and delivery.
  • Collaborate and provide leadership among technical/engineering leads, Directors, and VPs to drive efforts towards defined outcomes.
  • Ensure key architectural patterns, engineering practices, and standards are used across the organization.
  • Participate in EA's Federated Architecture roundtable.
  • Align business department projects with long-term priorities and connect projects to strategy.
  • Identify cross-departmental synergies and champion strategies.
  • Integrate business priorities into enterprise technology strategy.
  • Develop roadmaps for addressing functional gaps in partnership with teams.
  • Reinforce a quality-obsessed culture and establish metrics to elevate quality continuously.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • Over 10 years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, DevOps, or Cloud.
  • Strong relationships with multiple business and technology stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Solid understanding of design patterns and architecture.
  • Ability to influence teams and leaders on impactful issues and decisions.
  • Extensive experience with public cloud - AWS or Azure.
  • Preferred certifications in cloud space (AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional) and security space (AWS Certified Security - Specialty, CCSP, CISSP).
  • Advanced degrees or certifications in relevant fields.
