About The Position

This position is responsible for overseeing the Department's cloud computing strategy. This includes cloud adoption plans, cloud application design, and cloud management and monitoring. This position will indirectly lead teams of technologists to advance solutions delivery roadmap, providing guidance and oversight. It establishes leadership, standards, processes, and communities of practice to advance cloud computing capabilities in support of DHHS business objectives. The position oversees architectural content across all domains to support IT delivery, provides leadership for cloud architecture and infrastructure modernization initiatives including cloud migrations, and establishes and maintains cloud architecture, tools, and operational processes. It supports application migration efforts across AWS, GCP, and Azure environments, architects and enhances CI/CD pipelines through infrastructure automation, and leads cross-functional teams and workgroups. The role builds strong partnerships with business stakeholders and technical leaders, guides Solution Architects and Technical Leads to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards, and champions a cloud-first and security-first mindset in accordance with DHHS security policies. Additionally, it stays informed on healthcare and digital health trends, fosters innovation through brainstorming sessions and hackathons, contributes to the development of IT policies and standards, researches system and process improvements, and provides leadership in transforming legacy applications into cloud-native architectures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressive experience in all areas of information technology architectural components, interfaces and their applications or related work OR Bachelor’s degree in business administration or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and seven years of progressive experience in all areas of information technology architectural components, interfaces and their applications or related work OR An equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and facilitating cross-functional councils, committees, and Communities of Practice.
  • Proven experience developing and driving enterprise cloud strategy (FinOps, multi-cloud and hybrid cloud strategies), roadmap, and architecture standards.
  • Demonstrated experience enabling engineering teams by building and promoting reusable platforms and cloud-native development frameworks, while guiding teams on microservices, containerization, and serverless architectures using technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker
  • Foster innovation and implement creative out-of-the-box ideas by conducting brainstorming sessions, hackathons and other innovation events and elevate the thinking.
  • Proven expertise in advanced automation technologies, including bots, AI, and low-code platforms, as well as Generative AI tools and AI/GenAI offerings, with hands-on experience in implementing cloud-based solutions.
