About The Position

COND 311 is a course titled, “Advanced Conducting Seminar with Live Chamber Orchestra.” This course is designed for students who wish to further their abilities in conducting. Emphasis is on rehearsal techniques and interpretation while working with a live chamber ensemble. The live chamber orchestra consists of 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 double bass, and 1 woodwind (flute/clarinet - preferably someone who can double). The players must be able to read and play Classical repertoire. We are looking for 6 student performers needed for the COND 311 course. This course always meets on Mondays at 2-3:50 pm. The repertoire is mainly classical and the purpose of the ensemble is to work with student conductors in a laboratory setting under the guidance of conducting faculty. We are looking to fill these positions: 2 violins, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 bass, 1 woodwind (flute/clarinet - preferably someone who can double)

Requirements

  • Well-versed in Classical repertoire and playing.
  • Ability to follow the conductor and make adjustments as necessary or suggested by the faculty.
  • Be on time, warm-up and ready to play, so that the class can start and finish on time.
