About The Position

The Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) is a nationally recognized urban school district that serves approximately 22,000 students and 60+ different languages are spoken in the homes of our students. KCKPS is home to Sumner Academy, the #6 highest rated High School in the Nation and #1 High School in Kansas according to the US News rankings. With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers. The Enrollment Assistant for Special Education will support all aspects of the recruitment and application process to identify eligible families and ensure full enrollment for the Early Childhood programs.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required (Associates of Arts or above preferred)
  • Proficient using standard software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access; FileMaker Pro; email, district student enrollment software, ChildPlus
  • Organized and detail-oriented with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to multi-task and problem solve
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professional judgment

Responsibilities

  • Manage phone calls, texts, emails and requests for Developmental Screening Referrals
  • Support families by collaborating with preschool enrollment specialist in completing enrollment application
  • Confirm screening appointments and mail out courtesy reminders to families prior to appointments
  • Collaborate with (parents as teachers) PAT, infant toddler services (ITS), Family Conservatory, and other family support agencies to aid parents in making appointments to the Developmental Screening Clinic
  • Provide resources and referrals to prospective families as needed throughout the application process
  • Maintain & update multiple spreadsheets and data for early childhood students and early childhood center sites
  • Collaborate with school secretaries or registrars on the entry and exit of early childhood special education students
  • Understand the programs offered in WYCO early childhood special education
  • Run reports related to early childhood: COSF, enrollment reports, etc.
  • Attend and participate in community events to provide recruitment for the program
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of Head Start Performance Standards, the Head Start Act and related regulations regarding Eligibility
  • Assist with the review, maintenance, and storage of child files
  • Manage student data in CompuSped and Infinite Campus for students enrolling in the program
  • Collaborate with MIS clerk to make sure early childhood students are coded appropriately
  • Attend Developmental Screening Clinic monthly
  • Understand and maintain a working knowledge of laws and regulations that pertain to confidentiality of student records, personally identifiable information, and all procedures related to student information
  • Other duties as assigned
