About The Position

The YMCA of Greater Richmond is seeking an enthusiastic, passionate education professional (certified teacher) to serve as an Enrichment Teacher in a community-based afterschool program for students in grades K-5. Program hours are 3:30-5:30 PM Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the school year, following the Henrico County Public Schools calendar. This part time position starts at $25-$30 per hour. Many of our students are English Language Learners, and we have a strong emphasis on literacy in this program, so experience in these areas is a preferred.

Requirements

• Candidates must have at least three years of related experience.
• Must be a high school graduate, 18 years of age, and have at least six months experience working with youth.
• Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and technological skills.
• Strong relationship building, mentoring, communication and leadership skills.
• Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and service to diverse populations.

Nice To Haves

• A teaching certification is preferred but not required.
• experience in these areas is a preferred.

Responsibilities

• Development of relevant lessons
• Ensuring academic and social development of scholars
• Identifying the needs and creating original instructional plans
• Monitoring scholars' progress and making adjustments
• Working to create a safe and productive learning environment
• Providing mentorship to volunteers
• Supervising scholars in in-person day to day activities as well as special functions, such as field trips.
