About The Position

POSITION OVERVIEW Yellowstone Academy is seeking a qualified English Teacher dedicated to working with a diverse student population in need of consistency, structure, and emotional support. The English Teacher will deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction aligned with Montana Office of Public Instruction (OPI) English Language Arts standards. This position plays a vital role in helping students develop reading comprehension, written communication, critical thinking, speaking skills, and postsecondary readiness. Classes are intentionally small (up to 10 students), allowing for individualized instruction and meaningful connections. Yellowstone Academy utilizes a relationship-based approach to education, supported by strong collaboration among academic, residential, clinical, and support staff. Teachers benefit from consistent staff support and a team-oriented environment focused on student success. Students at Yellowstone Academy may present with academic gaps, behavioral challenges, or social-emotional needs. Successful candidates demonstrate patience, flexibility, and a commitment to structured, relationship-based instruction. The ideal candidate will collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop lesson plans, implement curriculum, and monitor student progress. We are looking for an educator who is as passionate about the growth and development of the students in our care as we are. The successful candidate will maintain a structured, organized, and engaging classroom environment that promotes accountability, respect, and academic achievement. Because Yellowstone Academy operates year-round, summer employment opportunities and additional instructional opportunities for extra compensation are available.

Requirements

  • Valid Montana teaching license with English/ELA endorsement (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong knowledge of literature, writing instruction, and literacy development
  • Ability to engage and support diverse learners
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Teach English Language Arts courses such as: English I–IV American Literature World Literature Composition & Rhetoric Creative Writing Reading Intervention (if applicable)
  • Align curriculum with Montana OPI English Language Arts standards
  • Incorporate project-based learning and real-world writing applications
  • Strengthen literacy, grammar, analytical writing, and public speaking skills
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse academic levels
  • Support students utilizing online learning platforms for credit recovery and supplemental coursework
  • Monitor student progress and provide targeted academic interventions
  • Integrate career readiness and employability skills through communication-based instruction
  • Maintain accurate student records and comply with state reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with academic, residential, clinical, and support staff to support individualized student plans
