About The Position

The English Language (EL) Tutor functions as a facilitating agent for the successful integration of non-English speaking students into the English language instructional environment of the school system. The EL Tutor interviews, assesses, evaluates, and determines the specific needs of all incoming and continuing students whose primary native language is other than English. Using this information, the EL Tutor serves as resource staff for EL students.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university or completion of 48 credit hours from an accredited college or university or passing score on the ParaPro examination.

Responsibilities

• Assists EL students acquire the skills and to become proficient in the English language.
• Provides adjunct instruction to the EL student; requests are generally initiated by the classroom teacher to convey more efficiently to the student the curricular content required by the SOL's.
• Performs other duties as required.
