About The Position

The English Language Instructional Specialist for South Bend Community School Corporation is responsible for assessing, monitoring, and supporting English language acquisition across social and instructional objectives. This role includes being an onsite test administrator for WIDA, compiling student data for Individualized Language Plans (ILPs), selecting and monitoring various interventions, writing lesson plans with embedded ENL supports, and supporting general education teachers with the integration of content and language under the guidance of the ELD WIDA framework. The position also involves planning and executing monthly parent meetings, reviewing and updating students' ILPs, providing effective instruction centered around the WIDA ELD framework, and collaborating with colleagues in professional learning communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in TEFL or ENL instruction, education, or related field.
  • OR Bachelor's (in any field) and active enrollment in ENL certification program.
  • 6 months experience working with a limited English population.
  • Indiana New Language (ENL) Professional Educator License OR Indiana Professional Educator License with English Learner (EL) Teacher of Record Endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Be an onsite test administrator for WIDA, a federally-mandated exam for students whose primary language is not English.
  • Compile student data for Individualized Language Plans (ILPs) for ENL students to monitor their English language acquisition.
  • Select and monitor various interventions including accommodations and modifications for inclusion in students' ILPs.
  • Write lesson plans with embedded ENL supports, accommodations, and modifications.
  • Support general education teachers with the integration of content and language under the guidance of the ELD WIDA framework.
  • Plan and execute monthly parent meetings for families with ENL students.
  • Review, write, and update students' Individualized Language Plans yearly per EEOA requirements.
  • Provide effective instruction centered around the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) framework.
  • Collaborate about scaffolding students need to engage in content-area learning and develop language.
  • Differentiate instruction and classroom assessment for language.
  • Interpret ACCESS for ELLs test scores.
  • Record grades using the corporation electronic grade book (PowerSchool) and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with grade-level and subject-specific colleagues in weekly professional learning communities.
  • Create and administer weekly summative and formative assessments to support data collection.
  • Attend and engage in professional development required by the IDOE.
  • Design and implement classroom management systems to ensure student safety.
  • Communicate with student families about academic and behavioral progress.
