About The Position

The English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Teacher at Connors Elementary School is responsible for using instructional practices to meet the proficiency levels of English Language Learners (ELL) at their appropriate grade level. The teacher will implement the district-approved curriculum aligned to Maine Learning Results and local learning expectations, maintain records, and meet federal, state, and local mandates. The role involves working collaboratively with various educational staff and administering English proficiency assessments. The teacher will create a conducive classroom environment for learning and supervise ELL students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education.
  • Valid Teaching Certificate with ELL endorsement #660.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plan and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches district approved curriculum aligned to Maine Learning Results and local learning expectations.
  • Implements the LAU PLAN at assigned school.
  • Maintains records and meets federal, state, and local mandates.
  • Works with district directors, ELL coordinator, school administrators and school staff in meeting appropriate instructional needs.
  • Administers English proficiency assessments i.e., access, access screening.
  • Implements accommodations on the MEA and local designated common assessments.
  • Differentiates the curriculum and instructional practices in meeting Maine Learning Results standards and local learning expectations.
  • Works collaboratively with classroom teachers, special education and Title I staffs.
  • Schedules student daily participation in the ELL Program.
  • Serves as a resource to students and parents for educational related purposes.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
