About The Position

The Department of English at Loyola University Chicago is seeking a qualified candidate for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Comparative Ethnic American Literature, starting in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will engage in teaching and research at a research university committed to social justice, focusing on early comparative ethnic American literature and culture, particularly early Latino/a/e/x and Asian American writings. This role involves teaching core and specialized courses, conducting research, and participating in departmental service.

Requirements

  • PhD in English, Literature, Ethnic Studies, or a related field at the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research and teaching.
  • Ability to obtain external funding and mentor students.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in comparative or relational race and ethnic studies.
  • Specialization in queer, trans, feminist or sexuality studies.
  • Background in migration studies, labor studies, textual studies, or digital humanities.
  • Knowledge of critical race theory, environmental humanities, or medical humanities.
  • Experience with revolutionary studies or the Age of Revolution.

Responsibilities

  • Teach core courses and upper-level undergraduate courses in the candidate's field of specialization.
  • Conduct graduate seminars in BA/MA, MA, and PhD programs.
  • Pursue a strong program of scholarship in comparative ethnic American literature.
  • Engage in service at the department level or above.
