About The Position

The ESL Program at South Central LAMP includes beginning through intermediate levels. Our ESL classes respect the student’s native language, while developing English skills as a second language. The goal of SC LAMP’s ESL program is to equip students with the language proficiency necessary for personal, vocational, academic and citizenship goals so they may participate fully in society and support and advocate for their children. Job Summary: This part-time role at South Central LAMP combines teaching with program coordination. The Coordinator/Teacher will continue teaching ESL while taking on leadership responsibilities to support the program’s operation, enhance instructional quality, and assist with compliance and reporting. This role provides an excellent opportunity for professional growth while contributing to student and program success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • 2 years’ experience teaching English to adult students.
  • TB Clearance
  • Must pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment, and education verifications.

Responsibilities

  • Attends SC LAMP staff meetings and coordinates ESL teacher meetings.
  • Confer with the Program Manager regarding ESL program, student, and staff concerns.
  • Assists the Program Manager to ensure ESL program compliance with funding agencies and organizational standards.
  • Communicates with ESL teachers regarding the overall SC LAMP program.
  • Coordinates scheduling, administration, and follow-up of testing programs (CASAS, promotional tests, classroom review tests).
  • Produces end-of-year testing data reports for funding agencies.
  • Meets regularly with ESL teachers to evaluate program effectiveness and student progress.
  • Facilitates integration with the Family Literacy Program.
  • Knows and actively supports the mission of South Central LAMP.
  • Develops and presents English lessons to students.
  • Evaluates students' class work and assignments.
  • Prepares classroom and subject materials, homework assignments, and handouts.
  • Applies effective classroom management and maintains discipline.
  • Creates a vibrant, inclusive teaching atmosphere.
  • Develops lesson plans in line with Adult and Career Education course outlines approved by the California Department of Education.
  • Submits substitute lesson plans to the ESL Coordinator for planned and unplanned absences.
  • Administers CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) as scheduled.
  • Attends meetings with ESL Coordinator and Adult Education Manager.
  • Maintains and submits class records as requested.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • Follows/implements administrative policies and guidelines established by South Central LAMP.
