About The Position

MiraCosta College is seeking a full-time, tenure-track English as a Second Language (ESL) Instructor to provide inclusive and equitable instruction to multilingual adult learners. The position will begin in August 2025 and involves collaboration with faculty to maintain curriculum standards, assess student learning outcomes, and support the transition of noncredit ESL students into further education or employment. The instructor will also engage in departmental activities and contribute to professional development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis.
  • Bachelor's degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate; AND Master's degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, any foreign language, or Literature and Writing Studies.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Familiarity with statewide and national educational initiatives such as WIOA Title II.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accessible, inclusive, and equitable instruction to multilingual adult ESL learners.
  • Collaborate with faculty to coordinate and maintain the currency of curriculum.
  • Contribute to the creation, assessment, evaluation, and recording of student learning outcomes (SLOs).
  • Assist in the development and evaluation of courses, programs, and certificates.
  • Organize and lead faculty professional development and mentor associate faculty.
  • Engage in departmental activities, including serving on hiring committees and conducting faculty evaluations.
  • Collaborate with faculty from both credit and noncredit disciplines to support student transitions.
  • Work with faculty, counselors, and administration to implement instructional and student support services.
