This is a unique role, which will span Materials and Process Engineering and focus on welding and joining technologies used in the manufacture of liquid rocket engines. This role will directly impact design and manufacturability of rocket engine hardware, ultimately contributing to lowering the cost of access to space. Special Mentions: Relocation provided Travel expected up to 15% of the time

Requirements

  • B.S. degree or higher in Welding Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience in welding engineering with an emphasis on process development, implementation, and qualification
  • Experience with definition and qualification of joining processes such as Laser Welding, Electron Beam Welding, GTAW, Brazing
  • Experience working with Ni-based alloys, Cu-based alloys, and/or other materials common in aerospace manufacturing
  • Experience developing and applying repair processes to hardware
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and present results in a meaningful format

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience with beam welding technologies (LBW, EBW)
  • In-depth understanding of materials/ process relationships
  • Familiarity with a range of manufacturing processes (additive, casting, forging) and their impact on joining techniques
  • Experience with failure and forensic analysis of aerospace or other complex hardware
  • Experience evaluating and interpreting NDT inspection results
  • Experience using automated and mechanized systems (robotic, CNC, etc.) for weld applications
  • Understanding of quality standards and industrial codes

Responsibilities

  • Develop and qualify joining processes for liquid rocket engine applications
  • Work with design, manufacturing and process engineers to design, qualify and implement joining processes
  • Identify and apply mature state-of-the-art processes to manufacturing, and develop process control documentation and quality assurance measures
  • Develop materials test plans for weld joint evaluation and qualification
  • Own process and repair qualification across the development and production lifecycle
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities for welding processes
  • Support day-to-day manufacturing through equipment troubleshooting, welder certification, tooling/fixturing design, etc.
